Syncing Data
Getting Data
To access The Life Star data send an email to hello@lifestar.io. In your email, please introduce yourself, your interests, and what in particular you are studying about crashes. We'll review your request within a few days and ask some questions as needed.
If your request is good to go you will receive a link to your own Postgres database that contains the data. You can use this link to connect to the database using any SQL tools. Please note that the access to the data is subject to the Creative Commons license.
We can't (not yet) give access to the data openly on the interenet because it's approaching 50 gigabytes. If you're studying car crashes we'll happily provide you with access to the dataset.
Sending Data
If you are an institution that has car crash data and would like to contribute to The Life Star, we would greatly appreciate your collaboration. By donating your data, you will help us expand and enrich our database and enable more users to access and analyze car crash data for various purposes. You will also receive recognition and acknowledgment for your contribution on our website and documentation.
To donate your data, please send an email to hello@lifestar.io and we'll start a conversation.
Some of the information we'll need is below:
- Confirmation that all individual identities are removed (e.g. license plate numbers, driver names, etc.)
- The name and type of your institution (e.g., government agency, research center, etc.)
- The source and format of your data (e.g., CSV, JSON, XML, etc.)
- The scope and coverage of your data (e.g., country, region, city, time period, etc.)
- The description and meaning of each data point in your data (e.g., date, time, location, injury, cause, etc.)
- The terms and conditions for sharing your data (e.g., license, attribution, privacy, etc.)
We will also provide you with the necessary instructions and tools to transfer your data securely and efficiently. Thank you for your interest and support for The Life Star.
